In the latest two-round mock draft from Eddie Brown of the Union-Tribune, the Chiefs get some much-needed secondary help in the second round.
Eddie Brown of the San Diego Union-Tribune has released his latest mock draft and fortunately it goes through the first two rounds. Also, fortunately, he has the Kansas City Chiefs able to grab a very nice cornerback prize with their first overall pick despite not selecting any players within the top 50 of the draft.
Brown has Florida State cornerback Tarvarus McFadden falling all the way to the middle of the second round where the Chiefs would likely be very glad to stop his draft fall at No. 54 overall.

McFadden would bring another strong, young investment into a secondary that’s already dynamic and very, very cheap. Marcus Peters is one of the NFL’s best young cornerbacks, and Brett Veach just traded for another ascending young corner in Kendall Fuller, who came over in the Alex Smith trade. The Chiefs then signed former Raiders cornerback David Amerson on a one-year prove-it deal and they also have Steven Nelson under contract. That’s already a nice foursome.
McFadden, however, would still be an ideal fit despite the perceived presence of so much talent. It’s likely that McFadden would soon fit outside opposite Peters in the base defense (or would slip out there in oft-used sub packages when Fuller would slip inside to cover the slot). Nelson has been a solid corner, but competition would be good in the secondary to push all parties involved. McFadden would also keep the unit cheap and young for some time as others got more expensive (and maybe too much so).
McFadden was a beast in the secondary at Florida State, picking off an incredible 8 passes during his sophomore season. He had 0 interceptions this year, but it’s hard to make plays on the ball when you’re often ignored by opposing quarterbacks (and he did have 10 passes defended). McFadden also has the requisite size the Chiefs would want (6’2, 200 lbs.) with the speed/strength combination to match.
