Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Kendall Fuller recently appeared on Adam Schefter’s podcast to discuss the recent deal.

The dust has settled a bit on the trade between the Kansas City Chiefs and Washington Redskins that included quarterback Alex Smith and cornerback Kendall Fuller. Unfortunately, until the new league year starts, Fuller says he still can’t discuss things too much with his new team.

Fuller appeared on Adam Schefter’s podcast for a quick interview recently and discussed how he found out about the trade. Fuller said he didn’t hear via Twitter first and foremost, but that it did play an interesting part in the overall night.

Fuller was a key piece in the return for the Chiefs in the pre-Super Bowl trade that shocked the NFL. The Chiefs gave up their starting quarterback for the last five seasons in exchange for the 22-year-old cornerback and Washington’s third round choice in the upcoming 2018 NFL Draft. The pick gives the Chiefs an important asset in a draft in which they were lacking serious capital, but Fuller is the most important component—a cheap yet effective performer at a sore spot on the team’s defense last year.

We transcribed several memorable pieces from the interview below so you can also read more about what he knows about the Chiefs, how he feels about playing alongside Marcus Peters and how much he’s heard about the region’s barbecue. That said, make sure to tune in and listen to the whole thing here.

On hearing about the trade

More from Arrowhead Addict

Yeah I think so. I’m not usually on Twitter that much. When I was on there, I saw you come out with it and somebody else come out with it, but I tweeted, “Nah, I haven’t heard anything.” Right after I tweeted that, my agent called me and told me about the trade. I was like, “Shoot, let me get off Twitter for a little bit then.” [Laughs]

On the emotions of leaving D.C.

It wasn’t too bad. It wasn’t more like the Redskins were looking to get rid of me. I think they saw a guy they needed to bring in, and I think the Chiefs were bringing it to them like, “If you want this guy, you’ll have to give up Kendall Fuller.” All of them were upset I had to go, so it’s not like they were trying to kick me out the door. It was a little bit emotional, especially having my DB coach out there, Torrian Gray … but it wasn’t too bad though.

Who he’s talked to from K.C.

I’ve pretty much talked to everybody. With the league year not really starting, there’s not too much we can say or talk about and stuff like that, but they were really just telling me that they were excited to have me—just stuff like that. Not too much just because of when the trade actually took place.

What he knows about Kansas City

A lot of people reached out on Twitter talking about the barbecue. [Laughs] That’s probably what I heard about the most, so I definitely gotta go out there and see what that’s about. But honestly I don’t know too much about it. The only thing that was kinda familiar was my brother Corey, he went to Kansas or about two yersa to run track, so I think I went out there abiout once or twice. So I’m excited to get out there and just explore pretty much. It’s my first time getting out of the DMV actually.

What he knows about the Chiefs organization

really just the success they’ve had the last couple years. I know they’ve been to the playoffs four of the last five years. Just watching them defensively, the front seven that they have I’m excited to work with and things like that. I know they’ve got a real young quarterback they’re excited in, and I’m just ready to go out there, work with those boys and compete and help us go win a championship.

Playing alongside Marcus Peters

Really just to see his skill set. Working with Josh Norman, you see what a lot of guys’ strengths are and you really get to see what they do and learn from them. Seeing his productivity over the last two or three years and how many plays he makes on the ball, I’m excited to see his mindset, film study and just learn whatever I can and go out there and compete

The toughest receiver he’s faced

It’s going to be a surprise to a lot of people, but I think Cole Beasley was tough for me for a couple… up until my last year. I think it’s how Dallas has used him, being in the slot how much space he was able to have. Even guys like Keenan Allen, Stefon Diggs, Adam Thielen. In the NFL, you’re going to get a dog every week.

Plan in terms of going to K.C.

Really not until OTAs. I’ll be out here working out here, training and getting ready. I’ll probably head out there a couple weekends to try to find a place and stuff, but not really until I report for OTAs.
