The Kansas City Chiefs are on the road for the first time in 2020 and the destination is SoFi Stadium, the new home of the Los Angeles Chargers. That also means it’s the first AFC West contest of the year and the Chiefs once again hope to extend their divisional dominance into another season.

For the Bolts, this contest means a lot in the early going. They’re fighting for respect after their season-opening win over the Cincinnati Bengals that was more lucky than earned. Anthony Lynn remains on the hot seat if the Chargers allow themselves to live in the Western basement for another season. A victory at home against the Chiefs would go a long, long way toward both goals and force pundits to rethink the ceiling for both teams.

As for the Chiefs, tough contests ahead in Week 3 and 4 against the Baltimore Ravens and New England Patriots make this an important game in its own way. The Chiefs cannot afford to overlook the Chargers—a trap game, in other words—and fall prey to mistakes or surprises on the part of L.A. Dropping an early season contest against a clearly inferior opponent would certainly come back to haunt them in what will be a tight AFC race.
