3. Joe Looney, OT, Dallas Cowboys

Joe Looney was a fourth round selection in the 2012 draft by the San Francisco 49ers. He spent his first three seasons with the club, spent his fourth in Tennessee, but has now appeared in each of the last 55 games for the Dallas Cowboys.

While Looney is a valuable piece for the Cowboys, they also have the offensive line depth to receive compensation for one of their less fundamental role players. At 6’3″, 315lbs Looney is a great guard pickup for a Kansas City team who may be desperate at this point to find someone consistent. With starter Wylie still recovering from an ankle injury, the team could add another guard and, as we said earlier, kick Rankin outside to replace the ill-effect Cameron Erving.

Looney is a perfect fit for the Chiefs as he is on an expiring contract and the Chiefs would owe him just over $1 million for the rest of this season. The Dallas Morning News profiled Looney as one of the Cowboys most tradeable assets during the summer, arguing that “Looney became expendable the moment the Cowboys drafted Penn State’s Connor McGovern in the third round this year. McGovern, much like Looney, has the versatility to play all three interior roles.”
