Jason La Canfora says that running back Spencer Ware is going to find a nice market in free agency, one that will take him out of K.C.

The Kansas City Chiefs were already in the market for some running back help this offseason after releasing Kareem Hunt in early December due to his continued lying about being involved in an assault from the last offseason. However, if you thought Hunt was the only back being replaced, you might need to think again.

Jason La Canfora says running back Spencer Ware, who is an unrestricted free agent, is going to find a fairly robust market for his services and he says the process should “out-price the Chiefs.” In his latest column previewing various aspects of free agency, La Canfora made a quick note about Ware’s market. It’s also clear he’s a big believer in Ware’s abilities.

"Someone is going to hit a home run with Spencer Ware. He is being overlooked by the media, but is dynamic with the ball in his hands and catches everything thrown to him."

Ware has yet to really experience free agency since coming into the NFL in 2013. He joined the Chiefs after the 2014 season on a reserve/futures contract after a stint with the Seattle Seahawks didn’t take and he never looked back. He made the practice squad in 2015, was promoted to the active roster at midseason and has been a staple in the backfield ever since.

Three years ago, John Dorsey rewarded both Charcandrick West and Ware with identical two-year, $3.6 million extensions to keep the backfield intact behind Jamaal Charles. Ware now gets a chance to see what the open market can bring him and feel what it’s like to be wooed by another team.

As for the Chiefs, Damien Williams is locked into place as one option but the Chiefs are likely going to make a couple moves at the position in order to feel good about the depth chart heading into the season. They’ve been linked with nearly every rookie back in various mock drafts, whether Joshua Jacobs in the first round or late round options like Bryce Love. Another addition in free agency wouldn’t surprise anyone unless the team wants to bring back West for another run with Darrel and Damien Williams.
