Oakland Raiders

The Oakland Raiders traveled to the Los Angeles Chargers to see if they could continue their momentum after their overtime win against the Cleveland Browns. That was not the case. The Raiders only managed to put up 10 points on the Chargers and 7 of those points came when there was only 5:11 left in the game.

This was a game of missed opportunities for the Raiders. It began with a fumble. Derek Carr passed to Martavis Bryant which looked to be a large 21 yard gain, but it was punched out by the Chargers defense and recovered. This fumble ended up allowing the Chargers to pull ahead 17-3. The Raiders then missed a field goal.

With 1:13 left in the third quarter, the Raiders sat on the Chargers’ 1 yard line. Instead of handing the ball to Marshawn Lynch, the Raiders opted for a pass. This allowed Melvin Ingram to step in and intercept Carr in the endzone. That interception resulted in a touchdown as well. Were it not for the turnovers, this game would have been much closer. The Raiders cannot seem to get out of their own way.

The Raiders are now at a dismal 1-4. While a good amount of the sports media had the Raiders winning the AFC West, it is clear that this may not have been an accurate prediction. The Jon Gruden experiment is not going well, and it is starting to become that time when there is real panic. If the Raiders cannot find a way to right the ship, they are staring down the barrel of a race to the bottom with the Denver Broncos. And the road isn’t getting any easier for the Raiders. The only good news is that the Raiders did not have any significant injuries in this game.

Next week, they travel to London to take on the Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks kept pace with the Los Angeles Rams which doesn’t bode well for the Raiders. The Raiders have yet to win a game on the road and this one is very much on the road in London. I don’t see the Raiders pulling this one out – especially given the Seahawks good looking run game. Game time is 12:00 p.m.
