Denver Broncos

The Broncos continued their miserable slide when they took on Sam Darnold and the New York Jets on Sunday. This was an absolute meltdown for the Broncos, who were blown out by the Jets 34-16.

This game came down to the Broncos leaky run defense. They allowed Isaiah Crowell to run for 219 yards which included a 77-yard touchdown run and an NFL record 14.6 yards per carry. Couple that with a 76 yard touchdown pass from Darnold to Robby Anderson and the Broncos didn’t stand a chance. The Broncos allowed a combined 323 rushing yards and 512 overall yards in this defeat.

At the beginning of the game, it looked good for the Broncos. They recovered a fumble just five minutes into the game, resulting in a touchdown, giving the Broncos an early 7-0 lead. This was followed by a missed field goal for New York. This is about where the good news ended for the Broncos, however.

Case Keenum was sacked four times on the day and finished the day 35 of 51 for 377 yards and two touchdown passes. Keenum was intercepted with 11 seconds left in regulation and that was returned 104 yards to the Broncos 1 yard line. Courtland Sutton chased down Marcus Maye to save this game from ending 41-16. Apparently the Jets need to work on their conditioning because he was gassed.

The Broncos are now 2-3 and it does not look good going forward. The Broncos defense was supposed to be good this year, but they were gashed for several big plays. This isn’t the type of gashing that the Chiefs defense has had where opposing teams put up garbage time yards. No, this was truly bad. Cornerback Adam Jones did not play in the second half after injuring his leg and head coach Vance Joseph calls this injury day to day. Tackle Garett Bolles is also considered day to day with an ankle injury. It was also reported that punter Marquette King has been cut after being placed on IR.

At the end of the day, the Broncos are struggling and their schedule isn’t getting easier. Next week, they play host to the only undefeated team in the NFC, the Los Angeles Rams. If the Jets can record over 500 yards on the Denver Broncos defense, I fear for them when the Rams come to town. Todd Gurley is going to have a field day unless Denver does something drastically different this week. Game time is 3:05 p.m.
