Jason La Canfora says Brett Veach is the frontrunner for the Chiefs GM job and that Andy Reid has not been involved in the process.

After a few days of silence over the course of what was likely a longer holiday weekend, reports are heating back up regarding the Kansas City Chiefs General Manager opening. Specifically, Jason La Canfora has a couple reports that add to the Brett Veach fuel while simultaneously helping to sift out the decision-makers in the process. Specificaly the NFL analyst says the team’s Head Coach Andy Reid is not involved.

First of all, Veach has been considered the frontrunner for the job even before Dorsey had officially packed up his office. His name was floated as a possibility for the Buffalo Bills GM opening despite the fact that he never received an interview, and it makes sense to keep the replacement internal to avoid further turnover and disorder at an odd time of year for such a hiring. Everyone should maintain a clear working order and professional parameters with an in-house promotion versus bringing in an outsider.

On the flip side, Reid’s involvement in this entire process has been at the center of some debate, with some wondering whether or not Reid was responsible for Dorsey’s exit. It seems that, at least, he was willing to work there without Dorsey, so maybe he simply gave a nod of approval after Clark Hunt told him about the decision. That could be the case for the hire as well.

Along with Veach, the Chiefs also interviewed executives Ryan Cowden of the Tennessee Titans and Scott Fitterer from the Seattle Seahawks. Louis Riddick, NFL analyst and former Philadelphia Eagles front office exec, also drew rumored interest.
