A week ago, I decided to give my take on the top 10 running backs in Kansas City Chiefs history. I hope to continue that theme next week as I rank the best wide receivers that have ever played in the Paris of the Plains, but I’m taking a break from it this week.

Last year, the Kansas City Chiefs had one of their better seasons in recent memory, as the team finished the regular season with an 11-5 record, including winning their last 10 games to finish out the year.

They also defeated the Houston Texans in the Wild Card round of the playoffs, giving them their first playoff win in 22 years. With a lot of young talent on both sides of the ball, many seem to think that this team is destined for even greater things in the near and distant future, but right now lets focus on this coming year.

Last year, we saw unheralded backup running backs Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware step up for Andy Reid when Pro Bowl running back Jamaal Charles tore his ACL for the second time in his career.

During his absence, West racked up 848 yards from scrimmage, finding the end zone five times in the process. Meanwhile, the LSU product Ware scored six rushing touchdowns and averaged a whopping 5.6 YPC in the 11 games that he saw action for Kansas City.

Both backs showed that they could carry the load while Charles was sidelined, which helped them earn contract extensions earlier this offseason. Now, with Charles back in the mix for 2016, the Chiefs have one of the deepest and most talented backfields in all of the NFL.
