The Kansas City Chiefs will play their third game in 11 days when they take on the Pittsburgh Steelers for a Christmas Day match-up on Netflix. It's the second straight year the Chiefs have played on Christmas and let's hope this year's Christmas Day match-up goes better than last year's.
There's certainly more on the line for the Chiefs in this year's Christmas game than there was a year ago. A win on Christmas cements the Chiefs as the number one seed in the AFC playoffs and would allow for them to rest their starters in their Week 18 finale in Denver. A loss means they have to continue to fight to get that top seed (or have to hope for the Bills to drop one of their final two games).
Unfortunately for Kansas City, the Steelers still have a ton to play for as well. They're fighting to win the AFC North and currently have the same record as the Baltimore Ravens, who play later in the day on Christmas. The Steelers can either win the division and likely finish as the three-seed or they can be the top wild card team and have to play on the road in the first round. They'll be fighting like hell to ensure it's the former in that scenario.
Announcers for Chiefs vs. Steelers
- Lead Play-by-Play Announcer: Ian Eagle
- Color Commentators: Nate Burleson, J.J. Watt
- Sideline Reporters: Melanie Collins, Stacey Dales
Chiefs fans have gotten used to hearing at least someone from the Eagle family calling their games recently, as this is Ian's third Chiefs game of the season and his son Noah called last week's win over Houston).
The color commentators are going to be new voices, however, as former NFL wide receiver Nate Burleson and former defensive lineman J.J. Watt will be in the booth. Watt calling a game that will have his brother in it doesn't seem the most fair but let's hope that doesn't skew how he calls things.
We'll also have Melanie Collins and Stacey Dales on the sidelines.
Referees for Chiefs vs. Steelers
Head Referee: Craig Wrolstad
The ref for this week's Chiefs game will be Craig Wrolstad, who has been in the officiating business for a long time. Wrolstad started as a field judge in 2003 and was promoted to referee in 2014. He hasn't reffed a Chiefs game yet this season and didn't in 2023 either. The last time he was in charge of throwing the flags during a Chiefs game was on the road against the Broncos in 2022.
