It was a bit of a slow start in Week 4 for the Kansas City Chiefs when they took the field in their first AFC West showdown against the L.A. Chargers.

A fumble, an interception and three punts to start the afternoon looked like a recipe for disaster for Patrick Mahomes and company. Fortunately, the Chiefs were able to weather the storm and only allowed it to get to a 10-0 deficit before they broke through.

And boy, did they break through.

After wide receiver Rashee Rice exited the game due to injury, this offense needed a lift. Enter: rookie wideout Xavier Worthy.

On a first-and-10, Mahomes dropped back and let it rip to the rookie streaking down the field. It was a throw Mahomes couldn't have made any better, dropping it right into the bucket for Worthy and a 54-yard touchdown.

Obviously, Chiefs fans lost their minds on social media after seeing a play like that unfold.

You know what? Depending on the severity of Rashee Rice's injury, he just might have to.

That's one way to bolster jersey sales. Make a play like that, watch the numbers pile up.

And from the top rope, this fan dismantles Bengals fans in a matter of seconds.

High praise, a bit premature ... but, let's hope so.

Speaking of premature... I mean, let's have some fun. But, whew boy.

Just when you thought he was simply out here scoring touchdowns, now the rookie is saving lives.

That he is.

Correction: The Bills gave the Chiefs Xavier Worthy.

We do too, Disco. We doo too.

We'd be cool with that.

Amen to that.

Xavier Worthy helped Patrick Mahomes break a long dry spell of deep touchdown passes

Prior to that deep touchdown, Mahomes had gone 30 games without a 50-plus-yard touchdown pass, believe it or not.

That does sound about right for fans who have long-missed the explosiveness of Tyreek Hill. Even though the Chiefs have been able to win without Hill, the offense has definitely looked different.

Fans had gotten used to seeing Mahomes making the wild and crazy plays which included deep passes to capable wideouts. Unfortunately, the Chiefs hadn't had a capable wideout in that department since Hill left Kansas City.

That trend stopped the minute the Chiefs drafted Worthy in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Now, Mahomes not only has a capable deep threat -- but he might have a candidate who could develop into one of the league's best in that area.

Worthy had previously been accused of only being able to run straight, as we remember hearing from Bengals cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt.

Well, if you ask us, Worthy's straight-line speed not only looks pretty good, but it also seems to work.
