8 free agents who should top the Chiefs offseason wish list
Defensive Tackle - Shelby Harris
Some of you may see this and say, "There's no way they make any more significant signings at defensive tackle after what they paid Chris Jones." While I understand that line of thinking, the Chiefs still have a massive shortage of players at defensive tackle. The Chiefs still need someone to start at defensive tackle next to Jones, preferably someone who is solid against the run.
The Chiefs won't be able to spend big on their "other" starting defensive tackle, but I think Shelby Harris might be the right level of quality starter who doesn't break the bank. Last season he signed with Cleveland on a one-year deal for $3.5 million. If the Chiefs could sign him to a similar deal this offseason, it would be a great get.
Harris is a solid interior player that plays the run well. He was PFF's 16th-best-graded IDL against the run last season. While PFF grades aren't perfect, Harris' 68.8 run defense grade was significantly higher than Derrick Nnadi's 42.0 and Tershawn Wharton's 46.9 and while Harris is certainly no Chris Jones on passing downs, he can push the pocket and provide some help in that area as well. He could also come off the field for a better pass-rush option too.
The Chiefs shouldn't spend huge at the defensive tackle spot next to Chris Jones, but because Harris doesn't put up big sack numbers that shouldn't be an issue and he would provide some much-needed stability against the run. Now let's talk about someone that the Chiefs could play all over the line.
