Former Chiefs tackle hints that Brett Veach might not be done trading after all

We're not sure if Kyle Long has any inside information, but it's interesting to note what he said about his own position.

The Kansas City Chiefs have already positioned themselves among the most aggressive teams at this year's NFL trade deadline. With multiple deals at positions of need, the Chiefs have made two trades already—each bolstering one side of the ball—in the hopes that they've added enough talent and depth for the stretch run.

According to one former Chiefs player, general manager Brett Veach might still be walking the aisles of the NFL's trade block looking for a bit more help.

Are the Chiefs still shopping?

Former Chiefs offensive tackle Kyle Long is a great follow on social media. On Tuesday, Long was discussing the NFL's trade deadline when Cam Robinson's name came up. Robinson, a left tackle for the Jacksonville Jaguars at the time, and Long was asked who the Bears might chase—having served as a longtime Bears tackle. He followed that up with an interesting line, however.

"He may be a chief by sundown tho [sic]", wrote Long in a post.

As for Cam Robinson, he's no longer a member of the Jags but he's also not with the Bears or the Chiefs, as nice as that move might have been for either team. Instead it was the Minnesota Vikings that swept in and secured some help at a position of (significant) need given the season-ending injury to LT Christian Darrisaw.

Already a busy trade deadline for the Chiefs

For the sake of review, Veach has already flipped next year's fifth-round pick to the Tennessee Titans for wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins and a 2026 sixth-round choice to the New England Patriots for pass rusher Joshua Uche.

Given that most NFL trade deadlines have been rather quiet in K.C. since Brett Veach took over, with a move made every other season or so, it's hard to believe the Chiefs would continue to make moves that compromise their cache of future draft assets. However, the team is in the midst of a potential three-peat bid—a summit that's almost impossible for any team to even put themselves in a position to chase (let alone achieve).

The Chiefs don't want to mess too much with their formula for long-term success, but there's also a window with the team's current core of talent to make the NFL record books. It makes sense for there to be an "all-in" sense at this juncture, especially given how the Chiefs are unbeaten in the face of numerous injuries.

Where the Chiefs could add help

So does that mean a further move is coming? It's possible. If anyone has watched the team's struggles at left tackle, especially the onslaught of penalties that nearly cost the Chiefs the game on Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders. Yet Wanya Morris is still the safer option over Kingsley Suamataia, who is apparently still too raw as this year's second-round pick.

It's also possible the Chiefs chase some help at cornerback in the wake of a season-ending injury to Jaylen Watson. Nazeeh Johnson is also in concussion protocol and the early results of Joshua Williams and Christian Roland-Wallace shouldering greater loads were mixed.

Then again, Long later admitted he's "throwing darts" in the discourse on Twitter, so maybe Veach is already packed up from any further mid-season trade urges. It'd be hard to blame him for doing so. His team is 7-0 with a solid first-half lead over everyone in the entire conference with reinforcements on the way via trade and return from injury. A three-peat isn't just possible; it feels probable.
