Rashee Rice, WR, SMU (No. 63 overall)

While we’re interested in adding some help in the trenches on both sides, especially on the outside of either line—either at offensive tackle or defensive end—the truth is that the Chiefs also need significant help at wide receiver. That’s why we saw an opportunity here in the second round to add a versatile weapon to give Andy Reid another face to work with in the wide receiver pool.

The Chiefs have already shown considerable interest in Rashee Rice after having brought in the SMU product for an official top 30 visit before the draft.

Rice profiles as a tackle-breaking machine who is a menace with the ball in his hand, earning him a Brandon Aiyuk comparison from Bleacher Report. There are overall questions about his burst and speed compared to other prospects, which might keep him from being a true deep threat, but SMU utilized him all over the offense and his hands and physical playing style will allow Reid to be creative with him nonetheless.

The ceiling is arguable here one way or another, but at the end of the second, it’s a risk worth taking and the Chiefs could figure out how best to use Rice.
