We put together a new three-round mock draft to see how the Kansas City Chiefs might be able to remake their defensive line (and help other areas).

Few activities are more fun this time of year for football fans than the use of an NFL mock draft simulator for a few minutes to see how a team (or a number of them) might end up looking at the end of the 2023 NFL Draft. For the Kansas City Chiefs, it’s a fun exercise to see who might realistically drop to the bottom of each round given their given draft slot at the end of each day after winning Super Bowl LVII.

While the Chiefs have to wait quite some time to make their pick, fans should be hyped more than ever on draft days this year because the festivities are being held in Kansas City. It’s a great time to showcase the region and it’s hospitality and, of course, the level of support Chiefs Kingdom has for its favorite franchise.

When the Chiefs make their pick, the crowds should be raucous but we’d cheer even louder if they addressed key positions with their selections—including some real help along the defensive line. That’s at least what we put together in our latest NFL mock draft.

Note: We used the Pro Football Focus draft simulator (it’s free!) to help us piece this together.

Bryan Bresee, DL, Clemson (No. 31 overall)

Bryan Bresee has been a beast at every level, from being the country’s top recruit to being the ACC’s Rookie of the Year early in his days at Clemson to now being a first-round draft pick—at least in our world.

Bresee is a massive 6’5″, 300-pound prospect who ranks among the very best defensive interior linemen in the country. He’s quite agile and athletic for a player his size, and his array of pass-rushing moves and his instincts to use them were already elite even early in his college career. Unfortunately, he’s dealt with serious injuries up front which has kept him from growing to a point where the Chiefs would never be able to reach him, including an ACL tear in 2021.

If that sounds a bit scary, it is, but Bresee is also the sort of prospect up front who has earned comps to Ndamukong Suh and would feel absolutely unfair in line with Chris Jones and company. The Chiefs shouldn’t even have a chance to strike it rich with a player like Bresee and the injury risks here aren’t so great that he’s off of draft boards all around.

That’s why we jumped at the chance to grab Bresee here in what was viewed as a rare instance of him falling all the way to the bottom of the first round.
