A new league year is upon us, which means the Kansas City Chiefs are ready to start the process of roster construction (and some deconstruction) in the hopes of putting together another championship roster. Of course, it helps when you begin with the yearly process with Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Chris Jones—to name a few.

This year, the Chiefs have some major holes to fill and it could lead fans to worry, but the truth is that past roster concerns have proven to be fine. Last year, the defensive look looked thin in depth and talent, and yet the Chiefs’ pass rush turned in a strong year overall. The year before, the secondary looked just as concerning and came up huge.

If nothing else, last year’s overall performance by the rest of the AFC West should remind Chiefs fans that if they see other teams making moves, it can easily all be for naught when it comes down to the actual on-field results. Just ask the still-smarting Denver Broncos if they’d trade for Russ Wilson all over again.

Here’s a list of the Chiefs’ signings so far in free agency

• Jawaan Taylor, OT – The Chiefs landed their biggest prize in the form of a new left tackle. The cost is high at $60M guaranteed over four years, but that was going to be true of any new LT on the market or via trade.
• Turk Wharton, DL – The Chiefs brought back the former Missouri S&T product on a one-year deal.
• Charles Omenihu, DL – A former 49er, Omenihu provides a nice young replacement for Frank Clark.
• Jody Fortson, TE – It was an easy call to bring back Fortson as an exclusive rights free agent.
• Shane Buechele, QB – This was obvious given that Buechele’s been a healthy scratch all season.
• Nick Allegretti, OL – The Chiefs were smart to bring back Allegretti’s experience and versatility on an offensive line that will have enough changes on the outside.
• Prince Tega Wanogho, OL – The Chiefs decided to bring back the developmental tackle for a third year.
• Mike Edwards, S – The Bucs safety had a career season last year and joined the Chiefs on a one-year deal.
• Drue Tranquil, LB – The former Chargers LB raises the profile of the entire second level.
• Derrick Nnadi, DL – The Chiefs decided to bring back the part-time run-stuffer for another season.
• Deon Bush, S – The Chiefs brought back a familiar face in the secondary to help with special teams, too.
• Byron Coward, DL – The Chiefs added a defensive tackle from the Colts to play the Taylor Stallworth role this spring.
• Blake Bell, TE – Just when it seems like age and/or injury might have removed him from the Chiefs’ plans, Bell comes back for yet another season.
• Richie James, WR – The former Giants WR had a career year last year and could help the Chiefs return game as well.
• Justin Watson, WR – The Chiefs are bringing back Watson on a two-year deal to bolster the WR corps.
• Blaine Gabbert, QB – The Chiefs added the former Missouri quarterback as a replacement for Chad Henne.
• Tommy Townsend, P – The Chiefs All-Pro punter signed the original round tender offered him earlier this spring.

• Frank Clark, DL – After attempting a restructured deal once again, Clark and the Chiefs have parted ways.

• Andrew Wylie, OL – The uber-versatile lineman found a new home with Eric Bieniemy in the nation’s capital with the Washington Commanders.
• Michael Burton, FB – Burton chose to reunite with Sean Payton’s offense as the new head coach in Denver.
• Khalen Saunders, DL – The New Orleans Saints offered real money ($14.5M) over three years.
• JuJu Smith-Schuster, WR – JuJu got his wish to cash in after betting on himself and he got a three-year deal from the Patriots.
• Orlando Brown Jr., OL – Not sure Orlando got the contract he said was necessary but he did get a nice signing bonus and a four-year deal with another AFC contender in the Bengals.
• Juan Thornhill, S – The Cleveland Browns lured Thornhill away with a three-year deal.
• Ronald Jones, RB – Jones gets a good chance in Dallas to take over for Zeke Elliott.
• Mecole Hardman, WR – Hardman gets a chance for a larger role with the New York Jets.
