Byron Young, Alabama

Projected Round: 2-3

Defensive Fit: High

Analysis: Byron Young would make for an excellent eventual replacement for Derrick Nnadi. While Young is somewhat limited in his pass-rushing skills, he will make for a great first and second down player at the next level. Anyone who watched Alabama knows that Young was part of the heart of the defense, both as a leader and as an anchor.

At 6’3 and 294 pounds, Young looked like a brick wall. He is very strong at the point of attack and often creates problems for offenses on rushing downs. In Kansas City, he would fit the mold well and free up space for Nick Bolton, Willie Gay, and Drue Tranquil to make big plays on running backs. While he is not flashy, his skillset would be appreciated in Steve Spagnuolo’s defense.

While this is not a home run swing, this pick would certainly check the boxes for the Chiefs. Veach likes guys with higher floors, so at the very least, they can have a role. Young, from day one, would have a role on the Kansas City defense.
