Could Big Red be ready to hang ’em up? Chiefs fans probably don’t want to spend any part of Super Bowl Sunday thinking of a succession plan, but NFL insider Jay Glazer just appeared on FOX’s pregame coverage and hardly dispelled the rumors that Andy Reid could consider retirement in the wake of Super Bowl LVII.

According to Glazer, Reid has approached this Super Bowl run with a different level of reverence than in previous years, making sure to soak in every second of celebration.

When Glazer asked Reid directly whether this would be “the final time we’d see him coach” if he beat his former team, the Philadelphia Eagles, and captured the second Super Bowl win of his career, he didn’t dismiss the claim outright.

Rather, according to Glazer, he said, “I’m not getting any younger. I still have a young quarterback. I have a decision I have to make after this game.”

Could Chiefs’ Andy Reid retire and pass torch to Eric Bieniemy after Super Bowl LVII? Win or lose?

It doesn’t seem like Reid would be likely to hang ’em up after a deflating loss, but the question will be asked swiftly in the wake of a potential victory, and Chiefs fans should get more clarity soon (though, knowing Reid, he’ll probably just drop a few similar quotes and kick the ball down the line ’til the party’s quieted down).

That would leave Eric Bieniemy as the most likely successor, given the fact that the Chiefs OC has stuck around this long, with so many head coaching opportunities floating by his radar since emerging as Patrick Mahomes’ guru.

Rumors of “friction” between Bieniemy and Mahomes that emerged last year have been flatly denied by both Reid and departing wideout Tyreek Hill.

This retirement chatter is for later, though. First up on Reid’s docket? Winning the biggest game since Super Bowl LIV and enjoying every moment of it.
