The Philadelphia Eagles have turned to the vast winning experiences of Vic Fangio for further help.

Both the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles could and should be doing anything they can to potentially get a leg up over the other team at this stage. After all, Super Bowl glory is on the line and only one team can hoist the Lombardi Trophy when all is said and done. But you’ll have to excuse us if the Eagles’ latest measure isn’t all that concerning.

Word has come down from ESPN reporter Adam Schefter that the Eagles hired Vic Fangio in the two weeks after the conference championship to help them with their game plan against the Chiefs.

Fangio is on his way to being the defensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins, and he’s fared very well in that role in the past. Fangio is one of the league’s better defensive minds, and he’ll never have a problem finding a place to work in the NFL as long as he’s interested. That said, we’re not so sure how much this will help the Eagles in Super Bowl LVII.

Fangio was most recently the head coach for the Denver Broncos, which meant he faced the Chiefs twice each season. We’re assuming this is why the Eagles decided to lean into his experience. But here are the full stats during that three-year stint in Denver in six games against the Chiefs.

  • Record: 0-6
  • Point Differential: -85 (168 (KC) to 83 (DEN))
  • Average game: Chiefs 28, Broncos 14

Yeah, the Eagles hired a guy who could have scored double the points (or allowed half as many points) and he still would have been outscored. To his credit, the Broncos are mired in a 15-game losing streak to K.C. so it’s not all on Fangio, but some of the most lopsided losses came in his tenure.

Maybe the Chiefs can secretly ask Dave Campo for help against the Eagles.
