The Kansas City Chiefs’ defense has not held up well in the first half of Super Bowl LVII after a sterling showing in the AFC Championship Game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Chris Jones, who’s emerged as one of the league’s best defensive players and has received plenty of praise during the two-week lead up to the Super Bowl, has been among the chief backsliding offenders through 30 minutes of action.
Based on his sideline display after Philly’s third touchdown of the game, he’s beginning to feel it.
Jones and the Chiefs defense — specifically, the suddenly shaky line — were on their heels all the way down the field as Jalen Hurts atoned for his near-fatal bobble. When he reached the sidelines, Jones had a fair degree of anger saved for his teammates and coaches.

How will they respond in the second half?
While Jones was clearly trying to motivate his teammates, he wasn’t blameless on Philly’s revenge scoring drive, which found pay dirt in part because of poor contain on several Hurts scrambles.
That drive fell firmly on the defensive line. After several weeks of DPOY talk, it’s safe to say Jones does not want to go out like this.
If Jones’ teammates are going to match his energy, there could be a massive second-half reversal from a unit that’s looked outgunned all game long.
Of course, Jones himself also has to be responsible for a change in fortune. It’s safe to say a good deal of that anger is directed at himself.
Add in Patrick Mahomes’ injury concerns late in the first half, and Kansas City has far more reason to hope for an extended halftime than the Eagles, who have all the offensive momentum in the world (and none of the screaming defenders).
