1. Special Teams

Resolution: Fix this mess or pack your bags.

Sigh… The Special Teams are a dumpster fire. Primarily it’s the place kicking and punt returns that have been an unmitigated disaster. I don’t care if the place kicking is more Harrison Butker being off or Tommy Townsend having issues with holding. Fix it! Whatever it is, fix it! This team is too good to have this big of issues with simple extra points or field goals. If it continues through the playoffs some people have to not be back next year.

Then there are the punt returns. Skyy Moore was a complete mess back there. They finally replaced him with Toney and now this week Toney had a fumble on a return that almost cost KC the game. We’ve reached the point where I’d rather they just didn’t have a returner and just let every punt land on its own. Even then I’m not convinced we wouldn’t turn some punts over because it always seems like there are blockers WAY too close to a live bouncing ball.

I know Dave Toub has a reputation for being one of the best special teams coaches in the NFL, but it is inexcusable that two major parts of his units are this dysfunctional. If he can’t fix it then they need to bring someone fresh in to try and do it. It’s hard enough to win a Super Bowl with your offense and defense, you can’t have your special teams making things even harder for you week in and week out.

So there you have it Chiefs fans, those are my top ten New Year’s Resolutions for the Kansas City Chiefs. What do you think? Do you agree with my list? Do you think I left anything off that deserves to be on the list? I’d love to read your thoughts in the comments below.

Happy New Year Chiefs Kingdom!
