Kadarius Toney is blossoming

It was going to take some time for Kadarius Toney to find his footing again after missing a few weeks with a hamstring injury that took him out of the Chiefs lineup not too long after first coming over before the NFL’s trade deadline. On Sunday, however, Toney looked like an essential part of the Chiefs offensive game plan for the first time since Week 10 (and for only the second time this season).

Against the Broncos, Toney earned 4 targets and caught all of them for a team-leading 71 yards. It was a major effort from Toney to help the Chiefs get past the Broncos on a day where the offense sputtered for much of the game, and it was a lot greater load share than the two targets from a week ago or the single target he’d earned against the Texans in Week 15.

Yes, there was the fumble on a return that set the Chiefs back and those special teams miscues must be addressed, but Toney is also an incredibly exciting weapon on offense that is going to provide new wrinkles for where Patrick Mahomes wants to go with the football.
