The Kansas City Chiefs landed some help at safety with the selection of Bryan Cook in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

The Kansas City Chiefs turned in their second of two picks in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft at No. 62 overall with the selection of Cincinnati safety Bryan Cook.

The Chiefs have been busy during the draft’s second day with a small trade from No. 50 to No. 54 overall to pick up an additional fifth-round choice from the New England Patriots. From there, the Chiefs grabbed some help at wide receiver with the pick of Skyy Moore from Western Michigan.

Cook had 96 total tackles, including 5 for a loss, in 14 games last year for the Bearcats, who had a stellar secondary with fellow defensive backs Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner and Coby Bryant (who will also be drafted). Cook also added 9 passes deflected and 2 interceptions. He transferred to Cincy after starting his career at Howard and now he’s a second-round pick for the Chiefs.

The Chiefs are clearly focused on completely remaking the secondary this offseason in all facets. They watched Charvarius Ward and Mike Hughes sign with other teams in free agency at corner, and Tyrann Mathieu and Dan Sorensen also departed at safety. The team then signed Justin Reid and Deon Bush as free agents to fill the void next to starting safety Juan Thornhill.

The Chiefs already added significant help on the defensive side of the ball with the first-round picks of both Washington cornerback Trent McDuffie and Purdue pass rusher George Karlaftis.

The Chiefs now have one pick remaining on day two, at No. 103 overall in the third round.
