Dicaprio Bootle, cornerback

Bootle has looked like a potential corner who could threaten for a very real roster spot in the past as a former rookie free agent signing out of Nebraska. It seems like Dave Toub likes his potential and if other defensive backs are leaving and an opening arises on special teams, Bootle should be a favorite to grab it—a la Chris Lammons or Armani Watts.

Cortez Broughton, defensive line

Broughton is a former late-round pick of the L.A. Chargers who was deemed replaceable when the team moved to a 3-4 defensive front with a new coaching staff. Despite being a 7th round pick, Broughton had earned some legit playing time as a rotational body and the Chiefs liked him enough to even protect him on the practice squad late in the year. Expect him to compete for a backup d-line spot in August.

Matt Bushman, tight end

Matt Bushman is a former BYU kid which clues you in a bit as to why the Chiefs already were interested, but he’s intriguing because he was able to climb the Raiders depth chart this year enough to be activated for a couple games. Then he was suddenly released. The Chiefs snatched him up late and have held onto him going forward.

Gehrig Dieter, wide receiver

By now, Dieter is a known quantity as a wide receiver and special teams player who has made the offseason roster and in-season practice squad for the Chiefs every year since 2017. The ceiling here is clear but teams need reliable backups and Dieter can at least give that security blanket.
