3. Willie Gay

The Chiefs’ defense has done a 180-degree turn. Second-year linebacker Willie Gay has been a major part of that.

While Gay is not posting eye-popping numbers at the moment, he has provided some excellent speed that has closed off rushing lanes and shut down would-be receivers. Gay is not even performing at his highest level yet, and that should excite fans.

Gay’s best performance came against the Giants when he posted a modest 4 tackles and had a game-changing interception on the first pass of the game. Gay is capable of making that play at any given time and will undoubtedly do it again soon. He has been a starter for the last five games and it has already made an impact. Imagine what he will do when he is executing at his highest level.

Gay spent the beginning part of the season out with turf toe and some other mental health challenges. This has put him behind in terms of fluidity in the defense and chemistry with other defenders. Once Gay has completely turned the corner, he could be the spark that takes the Chiefs on another Super Bowl run.
