The Kansas City Chiefs are already down one cornerback on the day with the news that a quad injury was not going to let outside corner Charvarius Ward play against the Los Angeles Chargers. Now the team is down another corner early in the second half of their Week 3 game against the Los Angeles Chargers with the news that Rashad Fenton is being attended to by trainers as part of an evaluation for a possible concussion.

Fenton is an important sub on the depth chart in the Chiefs secondary as a player who can provide reps outside or in the slot. That sort of versatility comes in handy for defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo who loves to utilize that sort of variability to disguise coverages.

Ward came into the game as a questionable designation on the team’s injury report but he was then declared out for the game as inactive came out before the game.

With Fenton out, Chris Lammons is going to have to step up in sub packages for the Chiefs, a player who is normally in on special teams plays only. Deandre Baker is also going to provide plenty more reps as a player making his debut after being inactive himself for the first two games of the season.

With Baker in the mix, the Chiefs are relying heavily on him, Mike Hughes, and L’Jarius Sneed to carry the greatest responsibility among corners.
