Frank Clark – Out

Speaking of a disappointing defensive front, Clark is listed as doubtful for the contest with a hamstring injury that came up during practice on Wednesday. It’s the opposite hamstring of the one that kept him out entirely of Week 1 against the Cleveland Browns.

Clark is the owner of the biggest contract in football for any defender (or any non-QB for that matter) and the shadow of that deal often causes fans to overlook what he does bring to the table.

While it’s unfortunate that he demands that much of the Chiefs salary cap, it’s also unfortunate that fans aren’t able to appreciate the fact that Clark is a smart player with great instincts who defenses are still accounting for, even if the sack totals aren’t there on a consistent basis.

Clark began the weekend with a designation of doubtful on Friday, but a report from ESPN emerged early Sunday morning that changed his status to out.

The loss of Clark up front would be a major hole on one side of the line and it’s not easy to fill with the likes of an older Alex Okafor or a limited Mike Danna. Either Danna needs to take a significant leap forward or Josh Kaindoh has to start showing some real productivity as a rookie. If not, the Chiefs might be in for a long day defensively as Justin Herbert could have plenty of time in the pocket to pick apart the pass defense.
