Chris Jones – Out

So far, Chris Jones has had two wildly different games. In Week 1, Jones had a couple sacks and was the lone defensive highlight in a close comeback win over the Cleveland Browns. In Week 2, Jones had several moments where he looked confused and/or overmatched at defensive end against a Baltimore Ravens team intent on taking advantage of his lack of experience outside.

It’s hard to say how things are going to go overall with this experiment of moving Jones outside, but the Chiefs seem intent on making it work and Jones wants to give it a full go. That means teams are going to continue to challenge Jones outside and force him to prove himself there after being a game-wrecking option inside.

At this point, however, it’s hard to say whether Jones will even play. A wrist injury flared up this week and kept Jones from ever being a full participant in any practice session from Wednesday to Friday. He’s officially listed as questionable. The good news, however, is that Matt Verderame of FanSided has a late Saturday report showing he’s trending positively.

Without Jones, inside or outside, the Chiefs would be without their dominant defensive force up front in an important game, which would place much more of a burden on Jarran Reed and potentially Frank Clark (more on him in a minute) to make up the difference. Unfortunately the Chiefs already have a lacking pass rush and the loss of Jones (potentially) would really put this whole unit on its heels.
