Charvarius Ward – Questionable

Ward is a starting corner on the outside for the Chiefs and that would be a big loss for any team to lose that sort of presence in the secondary. However, the Chiefs have a bit more talent here than other teams and Ward has allowed some big plays so far in a small sample size of games.

Ward is only allowing 45 percent of passes thrown his way to be completed, but he’s given up 43 yards after the catch so far and those mistakes are what allow big plays to opponents.

Depending on how Ward is feeling during warm-ups before the game, we might see a change in personnel here for the first time this season. Those of us who have been anxious to see Deandre Baker in ’21 might be in for a nice surprise.

Given Ward’s typical position outside opposite L’Jarius Sneed, it’s very possible the team could just sub in Baker for Ward outright instead of making myriad changes to keep things clean in terms of chemistry and a learning curve. That could include leaving Mike Hughes in the slot, where he’s fared well this year, and Rashad Fenton coming in for sub package reps.

However, the Chiefs could also slide Hughes outside, throw Fenton in the slot, and allow Baker to be the one to come in on sub packages. Either way, if Ward is inactive before the game, Baker would be active and not a healthy scratch for the first time all season.
