We all must soldier on.

In the wake of the K.C. Chiefs devastating loss to the Baltimore Ravens, it’s understandable if, as a member of Chiefs Kingdom, you’re still a bit shocked by what took place late on Sunday night. It was a last-minute loss, one in which Patrick Mahomes was in control of a charging offense with the final minutes ticking down on the clock. The team was in position to kick a field goal and potentially more after having weathered a tough challenge for the entire game.

Instead, the Chiefs watched Clyde Edwards-Helaire fumble and Odafe Oweh recover the ball. Just like that, the Chiefs were 1-1.

In the wake of the surprising defeat, it can be tough to regain perspective. The state of the defense has most fans angry. Edwards-Helaire is certainly taking his licks. Some have questioned Andy Reid’s play calling or decision making in the process as well.

What we’ve forgotten, however, is that even for all of their injuries, the Ravens have been and remain one of the league’s deepest roster and most well-coached teams. They are one of the few model organizations whose consistency allows them to stay competitive in moments just like this. They’re also led by the 2019 MVP who is the sort of quarterback who can prove impossible to defend.

On this episode of the Arrowhead Addict podcast, we try to remind ourselves and each other of what’s true about the long-term hopes and fears that surfaced after the loss. Is the defense really this bad? What needs to be fixed the fastest? And why isn’t anyone paying attention to just how excellent Patrick Mahomes has been this season?
