Week 5 – vs. Buffalo Bills

Yes, the Buffalo Bills haven’t been able to crest the hill to steal a win against the Chiefs in recent seasons, but they also look like the ascending sort of roster that could figure things out sooner than later, with a solid coaching staff and a savvy front office that has done a solid job of shoring up weaknesses. That’s a bit more than we’d say about the Baltimore Ravens at this point.

The Bills did well to bring back a few of their own key free agents this spring, especially linebacker Matt Milano and linemen Daryl Williams and Jon Feliciano. They also added Emmanuel Sanders to the receiving mix, headed by Stefon Diggs, which will give Josh Allen another intelligent target to grow with in his fourth season under center.

Speaking of Allen, his win totals have climbed from 5 to 10 to 13 in his three regular seasons as the Bills starting quarterback. If not for the presence of Patrick Mahomes, we’d likely be referencing the Bills as a top AFC contender and Allen as a perennial MVP candidate. Given his personal growth curve last season—which, really, it was a very significant step forward—it will be interesting to see how high his ceiling can go. However to get there, he’s gotta get through Kansas City at some point,.

Will this be the year that Allen gets over the hump? It’s must-see television either way—to see if the Chiefs still get the best of the Bills or if Allen finally takes that leap.
