The Le’Veon Bell sweepstakes is down to three teams: Chiefs, Bills, or Dolphins.
The Le’Veon Bell sweepstakes is expected to end sometime soon and there are reportedly only three teams left standing with a potential winning ticket. ESPN reporter Jeremy Fowler is reporting that the Kansas City Chiefs are one of the final three, along with the Miami Dolphins and the Buffalo Bills.
The Chiefs have been a featured team in the running for Bell’s services since the New York Jets first made it known that they were likely going to release him if they could not find a trade offer for the veteran running back. Bell’s contract was going to be too obnoxious for any team to accept that way, so the Jets felt forced to release him instead.
From the moment that Bell left, the Chiefs have been rumored as the favorites, although other teams were also reportedly in play. The Chicago Bears and New England Patriots were also mentioned alongside the three remaining teams, which means someone is leaking word about Bell’s thought process.
Fowler reported on Wednesday that the Chiefs were expected to have interest in Bell, so the feeling is clearly mutual here as Bell was seeking a place to potentially win a championship. However, it will be interesting to see whether Bell is really up for going somewhere with a clear lead back already—as the Chiefs have in Clyde Edwards-Helaire, the team’s first round pick last April.
If the Chiefs are able to sign Bell, as per Fowler’s report above, he would be available for the first time against the Denver Broncos in Week 7.
