Here’s our complete game preview for the Patriots-Chiefs matchup on Monday.
This weekend began with a moment of confusion and doubt as to whether or not the Kansas City Chiefs would even host the New England Patriots at all for their scheduled Week 4 matchup. Twenty-six hours later, both teams are now just hours away from kicking off at Arrowhead Stadium in a clash of AFC powers.
On Saturday, news broke that Patriots quarterback Cam Newton had tested positive for COVID-19, which immediately put the game in jeopardy. Newton would need to be treated and placed in quarantine, and it was uncertain who else had been exposed. It wasn’t long until the Chiefs had a player of their own, Jordan Ta’amu, also test positive, which means the coronavirus had infiltrated someone on both sides.
Somehow, both teams have been tested (and cleared) enough by the NFL to pass all safety protocols to move forward. The Patriots are flying into town on the same day they are playing, which puts them at a disadvantage in terms of rest and pre-game routines. It also hurts to lose Newton as well. Still, Bill Belichick is one of the best head coaches in NFL history for good reason, and it’s never an easy game when a team has to suit up against New England.
