The Chiefs also have a player who has tested positive for COVID-19 in Jordan Ta’amu.

Developmental quarterback Jordan Ta’amu has become the first known player on the Kansas City Chiefs roster to test positive for COVID-19. According to NFL reporter Ian Rapoport, the team has placed him on the COVID/Reserve list.

Ta’amu’s positive tests means that, as of press time, both the New England Patriots and Chiefs have had one player—along with Pats quarterback Cam Newton—test positive, which means quarantine measures and further testing must be done before the game is played.

The Week 4 contest between the Chiefs and Patriots was scheduled for Sunday, October 4 at 3:25 p.m. C.T., but that was already cancelled upon the news that Newton had a positive test. From there, rumors are saying that the game will likely be postponed to Monday or even Tuesday.

Ta’amu has been on the Chiefs practice squad ever since roster cuts were made. The team brought him in as a developmental arm in the preseason, and he won out the role over Kyle Shurmur. The Chiefs have Patrick Mahomes and Chad Henne on the active roster, and given the expansion of this year’s practice squads, veteran Matt Moore is also available as well.

The Chiefs brought in Ta’amu after an impressive showing with the St. Louis Battlehawks in the short-lived XFL. Ta’amu was a two-year starter at Ole Miss with 30 touchdowns and 12 interceptions during his tenure for the Rebels.

Nothing further is known about Ta’amu’s condition or how he might have contracted the disease. However, safety protocols put in place by the Chiefs should provide some of that information in the next day or more.
