Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers hosted the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. This game was the only AFC West game that was close in Week 3. The Panthers under new head coach Matt Rhule had yet to win a game while the Chargers under rookie quarterback Justin Herbert were looking to bounce back after last week’s loss to the Chiefs. Herbert made some rookie mistakes, but this came down to the last play of the game. The Chargers were hoping to score a touchdown to win the game, so they attempted a lateral. They couldn’t complete it, of course. Chargers gonna Charger.

The toss from Keenan Allen couldn’t be secured by Austin Ekeler, and the Chargers dropped the game. They are now 1-2 on the season and in third place in the AFC West. Herbert still looks raw, but definitely shows some promise. Anthony Lynn, however, maintains that when Tyrod Taylor is healthy, Herbert will return to the bench.

The Chargers continue to suffer with injuries. Chris Harris Jr., Bryan Bulaga, and Mike Williams all suffered them. The news late last night, however was bad. Harris is expected to be out 6 weeks. There is still no timetable on the return of Taylor, which is something to watch as we move further into this season.

Next week, the Chargers travel to the Buccaneers to take on Tom Brady. Brady and the Bucs have gotten better each week, but I think this will be an interesting challenge for the Chargers. Pressuring Tom has always been a good way to stop him and the Chargers have one of the best defensive fronts. However, the Bucs also have a great defense that will certainly be challenging for Herbert. I think the Bucs pull this off, but that the game will be closer than one might initially expect.

Game time is Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
