Former Chiefs lineman Xavier Williams worked out for the Patriots on Wednesday.

Former Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Xavier Williams contines to receive interest from NFL teams leading up to the start of the regular season. This time, he hopes that the New England Patriots are interested enough to offer him a contract to extend his NFL career for another year.

Williams spent the last two years with the Chiefs, but the Kansas City native was limited due to injury last year during the team’s Super Bowl run. The Chiefs did not make an effort to re-sign him this spring, and Williams has been waiting in free agency ever since.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers showed some interest in Williams last week but a contract failed to materialize. Teams at this point are going to check in on players not only to immediately sign them in the preseason but to know exactly what is available on the free agent market in case a need should arise.

Williams is a five-year NFL veteran who has also played with the Arizona Cardinals for the first three seasons of his career. The Cardinals failed to match the Chiefs contract offer back in 2018 of a two-year deal worth over $5 million, which allowed him to switch teams despite only being a restricted free agent.

Serving largely as a rotational lineman for both the Cards and Chiefs, Williams only has 83 tackles, 3 sacks, 6 quarterback hits and 3 forced fumbles in 44 games in that span of five seasons.  Plagued last season by a high ankle sprain. Williams, who is 28, will need to show he’s healthy once again.
