Former Chiefs DL Xavier Williams has received some free agent interest from the Buccaneers.

As the NFL season draws near, some NFL veterans are still waiting for any signs of life to continue their careers for another season. Former Kansas City Chiefs Xavier Williams is hoping that he’s not yet done and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers might be the lifeline he needs.

NFL reporter Albert Breer noted that the Bucs hosted Williams for a visit over the weekend. At 6’2, 310 lbs., Williams would provide the Bucs with a big body along a defensive front that already has a lot of talent—from familiar vets like Ndamukong Suh to promising linemen like Vita Vea.

Williams entered the league as a rookie free agent signing with the Arizona Cardinals after the 2015 NFL Draft and played for them for three seasons, ascending the depth chart to become a rotational lineman who could even step in and start on a rare occasion.

The Chiefs signed Williams in the spring of 2018 in the hopes that the Cardinals wouldn’t match the deal offered to him as a restricted free agent. Veach had already been burned that spring by the Chicago Bears who refused to let Kyle Fuller leave. The Chiefs ended up getting Williams on a two-year, $5 million deal that allowed the K.C. native to play for him home team—even during their most recent Super Bowl run.

Williams enjoyed his most productive season to date in K.C. in 2018 when he appeared in all 16 games and even made four starts. He had 47 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and 1 forced fumble. Unfortunately, Williams was injured most of last season and appeared in only five games in Steve Spagnuolo’s scheme. He had only 8 tackles in limited snaps in those appearances.
