18. Miami Dolphins – K’Lavon Chaisson, EDGE LSU

Analysis by Arrowhead Addict contributor Travis Steffen

Even after free agency where the Miami Dolphins signed Shaq Lawson to a three-year deal and Emmanuel Ogbah to a two-year contract, there is still a serious need for a pass rusher. Lawson was not brought back by Buffalo largely due to his inconsistent play. Even in 2019, the year that people will point to when talking about his best season in the NFL, he only came away with 6.5 sacks for the Bills defense.

Chaisson still has some developing to do given his limited playing time at LSU due to a torn ACL in 2018. However, he has the perfect build to be a hybrid pass rusher for a defense that wants to use multiple fronts. Chaisson gives the Dolphins versatility at edge, and if he continues to develop his pass rushing skills, he could be a top edge in the NFL.

Early in his career, Chaisson will find most of his success with speed rushes on the edge, and stunts inside exploiting his outstanding athleticism. He is a plus run defender that has the length and heavy hands to hold the edge, but some additional weight could be beneficial. His 2019 season reveals a clear line of progression as he developed throughout the year. With unlimited possibilities, Chaisson is not only arguably the best player available, but plays a position of need that is a high value. (Travis Steffen)
