Jeff Gladney, CB, TCU

The stats:

In 12 games, Gladney has 31 total tackles, 14 passes defended, and 1 interception for Texas Christian.

They say:

"Gladney is still considered in the second tier of this deep CB class, but that will change in the coming months. Possessing length that makes scouts salivate, he also has the ball skills and tackling ability that make him a potential early starter."

We say:

We love this pick! Jeff Gladney is a redshirt senior who comes ready-made to start in the NFL from day one despite not being one of the most bandied about names in the draft (a la Kristian Fulton, Jeff Okudah). His experience at Texas Christian has given him good looks outside and in, in man or zone coverages. He’s a wonderfully versatile prospect who is long and athletic and earns solid marks from draft analysts for his ability to mirror receivers and make plays on the ball.

For the Chiefs, this would be a major score in the late first given how often Steve Spagnuolo plays five or six defensive backs at a time. Charvarius Ward and Rashad Fenton are the only corners currently under contract for next season, and Gladney would give them another instant starter wherever they wanted to put him from day one. Combine this move with a re-signing of Bashaud Breeland and the Chiefs would suddenly have a nice core in the secondary for 2020 and beyond as Gladney develops in his first professional season.
