Who will lose their Chiefs roster spot to Morris Claiborne?

Rashad Fenton, cornerback

As we’ve stated here, four corners isn’t very many, but Fenton doesn’t appear to have the trust of the defensive staff (yet), based on exactly zero snaps thus far. Those are just assumptions, however. The team may well be content rostering only four at the position, and a simple swap of Fenton-for-Claiborne would be an immediate upgrade. Claiborne, Breeland, Fuller and Ward give the Chiefs a respectably experienced quartet of corners.

Fans have already turned on Ward after his less-than-stellar first quarter of 2019, but it is highly unlikely the team issues the second-year Ward his outright release given the fact that he’s already received such a high volume of snaps. There’s zero indication that the team would keep Fenton over Ward.

The biggest concern with releasing Fenton has nothing to do with this season. It’s really that he and Ward are the only two corners on the roster who are under contract in 2020. But that won’t keep Reid from cutting Fenton if they only viewed him as a warm body to keep around in case of injury before this Week 5 deadline.
