Kyle Shurmur

With Kansas City siging veteran QB Matt Moore this week, a lot of questions came up about Shurmur’s future with the red and gold. With Patrick Mahomes the obvious starter for years to come, Chad Henne on IR, and Moore being assumed to be the backup, where did Shurmur fit into the QB picture, if at all?

Despite uncertainty about his future in football, Shurmur came out and had a monster game in Lambeau. In one half of play, Shurmur had 143 yards passing and one touchdown. Despite one interception (that is not even his fault, as he was being hit hard as he threw), Shurmur looked flawless in the first half.

Shurmur has had an amazing preseason, and with Chad Henne‘s injury, Shurmur looked primed to secure his spot as the backup QB. But with Matt Moore’s signing, that does not seem like a possibility. Shurmur sadly becomes destined for the practice squad.

In the near future, Shurmur could easily make the roster as a backup for the Chiefs, if not a starter for an organization needing a solid young quarterback to build around (keep your eyes on the Titans and the Patriots).
