Patrick Mahomes says he’s up for a challenge against Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen to see who can throw a football the farthest “for charity.”

Being the National Football League’s Most Valuable Player comes with a considerable number of obligations. It does, of course, come with national recognition, endorsements, fame, and the like, but it also seems to come with a number of appearances for which Patrick Mahomes must show up.

This week provided the perfect example for Mahomes. The Kansas City Chiefs starting quarterback made an appearance in Rochester, New York of all places, as he was handed the Coca-Cola Sports Personality of the Year by the Rochester Press-Radio Club. He spoke for several minutes and was given the award in person. (And yes, if you think this sounds like a random, made up award for which you’d not travel to Rochester yourself, we’re with you.)

Since he’s in the vicinity, questions were asked of Mahomes about the Buffalo Bills in a number of ways. First, the Chiefs traded up with the Bills to take Mahomes in the first place in the 2017 NFL Draft, so Mahomes answered some questions about how fate intervened there. (The Bills did take cornerback Tre’Davious White.)

The most interesting moment of the night came when the strong arm of Josh Allen was brought up. Allen was the cannon of the 2018 NFL Draft, one year after Mahomes was known as the same. Both showed what they can do at the pro level, but Mahomes was having none of the comparisons for folks who wanted to insist they were equal or that it was even a competition. Instead, Mahomes said he was quite willing to prove it once and for all in a friendly competition—”for charity.”

"“Josh is a great dude,” began Mahomes. “But no one that I’ve known has been able to throw a ball farther than me. I’ve never seen Josh throw in person but maybe next offseason we can set something up (to see who can throw farther). Hopefully I can get him to come down to Kansas City, and we can do something for charity. It’s going to take at least 85 yards to win (the throw-off).”"

It’s hard to hear Patrick Mahomes in this quote and not think of Uncle Rico from

.

Given how popular such an event might prove to be, here’s hoping Allen has the willingness to go through with the challenge and come to K.C.—for charity, of course.
