Former Kansas City Chiefs running back Charcandrick West visited with the Oakland Raiders, per Field Yates.

Free agent running back Charcandrick West recently spent some time on a personal visit and private workout with the Oakland Raiders, per Field Yates.

After years of playing against them as AFC West rivals, West got his first sniff of interest in free agency with news that Jon Gruden and Mike Mayock were interested in seeing what West has to offer up close. At the very least, it’s a testimony that Gruden liked what he saw from the opposing sideline when playing against the Chiefs in 2018.

West was released by the Chiefs last summer as he failed to make the team’s active roster out of training camp after four seasons with the team. Kareem Hunt, Spencer Ware, Damien Williams, and undrafted rookie Darrel Williams formed the running back corps heading into 2018. West instead signed a deal with the New York Jets to try to catch on their active roster at the last minute but things didn’t work out.

The Chiefs would eventually call on West once again after making the decision to release Hunt when a video surfaced via TMZ Sports of his involvement in an offseason assault. West was a free agent back for most of the regular season.

In three games last year, West had very limited output for the Chiefs, with only 2 rushes for negative-1 yards and 2 catches for 37 yards. In previous seasons, however, West showed what he can do in a scatback role. In his career, West has caught 77 catches for 589 yards and 7 touchdowns. He also owns a career rushing average of 3.7 yards/carry.

Right now, the Raiders backfield consists of Jalen Richard, DeAndre Washington and the newly signed Isaiah Crowell.
