Kansas City Chiefs offer Jordan Lucas a 6th round tender
By Matt Conner
The Kansas City Chiefs have tendered Jordan Lucas at the 6th round level, which will allow the Chiefs some control over his situation.
Jordan Lucas is a restricted free agent at a time when unrestricted free agency is going wild. That means the Kansas City Chiefs needed to decide at what level to tender him, and the decision has been made at the sixth round level.
By offering Lucas a 6th round tender, it means that the Chiefs safety is free to try to sign with another team but the team has a right to match any offer he receives. If the Chiefs give him up to that team and refuse to match any deal, the signing team must compensate the Chiefs with a sixth-round pick.

If a team fails to sign Lucas to an offer sheet, Lucas will come back to the Chiefs and play on a one-year deal worth a preset amount of just over $2 million.
The Chiefs first picked up Lucas just before the 2018 regular season began as roster cuts were due from the Miami Dolphins. Lucas came over in a quick swap to give the Chiefs more depth in the secondary and a standout special teams performer. It wasn’t long before Lucas was a fan favorite and a nice surprise on the field who likely deserved even more playing time than he received.
The Chiefs originally traded a 7th round pick in 2020 to the Dolphins in exchange for Lucas, who played in all 16 games for the Chiefs last year. Lucas even started four contests and had 32 tackles, 2 passed defended, 1 sack, and 1 interception.
