Kareem Hunt apologizes for behavior in first interview after release from Chiefs

Kareem Hunt spoke out in an interview on ESPN’s NFL Countdown for the first time since being released by the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.
Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt spoke out on Sunday for the very first time since his release from the team in the wake of TMZ Sports’ post of a video of the running back assaulting a woman last February.
Hunt agreed to an interview on NFL Sunday Countdown with ESPN’s Lisa Salters and shed some light on his side of the story as well as his reaction to being released.
You can see some of the interview segment here:
Hunt was apologetic throughout the entire interview. He apologized specifically to the victim, the team, and included several remorseful statements including that his own actions were the cause for his release. Critics will wonder why Hunt didn’t feel the need to apologize before a video forced it out of him, but Hunt at least seems to have hit rock bottom at this point and is responding accordingly. Hunt also admitted that he lied saying, “I didn’t tell [the Chiefs] everything.”
Hunt also stated that he never once spoke to the NFL about the incident, which paints the league in a negative light concerning their treatment of this entire case (and the lack of any real investigation).
Hunt faces an unknown future in the NFL with the league still yet to decide what official action to take in light of the video that surfaced. For any team that is able to employ Hunt in the future, they’ll be getting a player with 25 touchdowns in 27 career games and just under 3,000 yards from scrimmage in that time.
Hunt led the NFL in rushing yards last season, just the sixth rookie to do so in NFL history.
