Denver Broncos

The struggling Denver Broncos traveled to Carson, California to take on the Los Angeles Chargers and handed them their third loss of the season. Last week, the Broncos suffered defeat at the foot of Brandon McManus. This week, he handed them victory. A last-second field goal boosted the Broncos ahead of the Chargers given them their fourth win of the season.

Case Keenum led the Broncos on a drive that started on Denver’s 8-yard line with 1:51 remaining in the game. Seven plays and 76 yards later, McManus knocked his kick down the uprights. The Broncos were assisted by a successful fake punt in the second quarter that allowed a subsequent 41-yard touchdown run from rookie Phillip Lindsay (who still lives with his parents if anyone was wondering).

This was the second week in a row the Chargers allowed a fake punt to be successful leaving teams to wonder if this is something that will continue to be exploited? In addition to a good day from Lindsay, credit where credit is due: Von Miller recorded the 100th sack of his career. He has 10 on the season and is the fifth-fastest player to reach 100 career sacks since 1982. He is undeniably a beast.

Not only did Miller record a great sack of Rivers, but he also intercepted him in what would prove to be a momentum-swinging interception. Miller hadn’t had an interception in a regular season game since 2012 and he returned it 40 yards. That interception turned the game from a potential blowout to a really close game.

Denver didn’t leave the game unscathed. Wide receiver DaeSean Hamilton injured his knee in the second quarter. Reports after the game are that he aggravated a prior injury and it was not as bad as the first time. Cornerback Bradley Roby left the game in the fourth quarter to be evaluated for a concussion.

Next week, the Broncos host the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers have been rolling over opponents with their high-powered offense of Ben Roethlisberger, Antonio Brown, James Conner, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Vance McDonald. Even with Le’Veon Bell‘s hold out and subsequently not playing this season, their offense has been lights out recently. It is unlikely the Broncos can hang with their offense so I anticipate a loss for the Broncos in Week 12. Game time is 3:25 p.m.
