Chiefs Player of the Week: Offense

This player led both teams in receiving yards, being the only player of the game to reach 100. Being one of my favorite players, I’m really glad he’s stepped up to the plate the last couple weeks.

Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce must have read my Week 1 player awards article. After being dubbed the biggest disappointment of the week in the win against the San Diego Chargers, Kelce took it upon himself to get a pair of 100-yard receiving games in weeks 2 and 3. His performance also included a highlight reel-esque one-handed catch.

  • Receptions: 8
  • Receiving Yards: 114
  • Touchdowns: 0

RUNNER-UP: Sammy Watkins (5 receptions, 55 receiving yards, 1 touchdown)

Chiefs Player of the Week: Defense

A few years ago, this player was dominating the stat chart as one of the more premier players in the NFL. After being plagued and slowed down by a plethora of injuries, it seems like he’s slowly getting back into his groove.

Chiefs outside linebacker Justin Houston did not lead the team in tackles, but he did have several key plays, stepping up when the team really needed him. This includes a key strip sack against Jimmy Garropolo – that the offense ultimately recovered. It’s taken him a couple games, but I believe we’re starting to see the Houston we’ve come to know and love. It appeared that Houston was put into focus in the pass rush, which is where the All-Pro outside linebacker shines.

  • Solo Tackles: 4
  • Assisted: 1
  • Total: 5
  • Sacks: 2

RUNNER-UP: Allen Bailey (4 total tackles, 1 sack)
