Chiefs Biggest Disappointments of the Week: Offense

You won’t see this player’s name in this category very often. I personally hope I don’t have to put him here at all for the rest of the season.

Perhaps the reason for wide receiver Tyreek Hill’s lack of production wasn’t his fault. He was pretty much covered the entire game, mostly by cornerback Richard Sherman. I guess the only bright side to this performance – or lack thereof,  is that we can confidently say anything less than 60 receiving yards for Hill is pretty much a down game. The bright side to this is that he’s consistently great. I expect a bounce-back game for him next week against the Denver Broncos, in a primetime atmosphere he always shines in.

  • 2 receptions
  • 51 receiving yards
  • 2 carries
  • 5 rushing yards

RUNNER-UP: Demarcus Robinson (0 receptions, 0 yards)

Chiefs Biggest Disappointments of the Week: Defense

I think the reason I’m choosing this player as a disappointment is there’s just not been enough production from him. I personally would expect more out of him, but being just a rookie, I guess you can’t really lay the blame on his shoulders.

Outside linebacker Breeland Speaks hasn’t been flashy this season. For a rookie drafted in the second round, it will inevitably take him some time to get into his groove. This was one of the more disappointing performances, however, from a quick glance. Speaks will need to hopefully amp up his production in the coming weeks.

  • Solo Tackles: 1
  • Assisted: 1
  • Total: 2

The Wrap:

The Chiefs capped off another stellar offensive performance. A record-setting performance that will be remembered for quite a while. In case you need convincing, former Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith had 26 passing touchdowns all of last season, a career high. Mahomes has 13 touchdowns in 3 games, already accounting for half of Smith’s season total and career high he threw for last year.

Kelce’s impressive performance in the last couple weeks makes me a happy camper. I love when the team’s big name players step up and lead the team to success. Don’t get me wrong, it’s nice to see the young guys get touches as well – like Kemp’s first career reception today, but it’s great to see players like Kelce step up to the plate.

While the defense looked shaky in some areas, they stood tall where it mattered most. This included three different players getting sacks, with Dee Ford, the aforementioned Justin Houston, and Allen Bailey. A nice performance by the Chiefs pass rushing corps led the team to victory. While there were some mistakes in the secondary, it was collectively an overall decent performance by the defensive backs. I think Orlando Scandrick and Kendall Fuller were among my favorite players to watch today. It’s really something special seeing veterans make moves for your team.

Next. The Chiefs are legit Super Bowl contenders. dark

Cornerback Steven Nelson also had a good game, including a brick wall-esque stop against quarterback Jimmy Garropolo, ultimately making Garropolo pay for trying to fake going out of bounds on a scramble. I’d like to see some more production out of the rookie Speaks, but every week I’ve chosen a disappointment, they’ve always stepped up. Maybe this can be the case?
