Quarterbacks

  1. Patrick Mahomes
  2. Chad Henne
  3. Chase Litton

This one is fairly cut and dry. From the top down, it was an easy count to put together the Chiefs quarterbacks, but then again most teams will likely operate this way with only a handful having any real drama at a position in which the tiers between each level are easily discerned.

Patrick Mahomes is, of course, the starting quarterback and Chad Henne comes in right behind him. Even from there, it was a landslide win for Chase Litton, the undrafted free agent quarterback out of Marshall, to take over the team’s No. 3 spot over former Oakland Raiders quarterback Matt McGloin. In fact, only a single writer had McGloin at No. 3 over Litton.

Running Backs

  1. Kareem Hunt
  2. Spencer Ware
  3. Damien Williams
  4. Darrel Williams
  5. Anthony Sherman (FB)

Kareem Hunt is back and ready to defend his rushing title, while Spencer Ware has proven himself able to come back from a season-ending injury. It might take him a few games to really get back into his naturally gritty mode, but we love the idea of a true tandem there in order to maximize their talents. Damien Williams takes over for Charcandrick West as the team’s scatback.

It’s quite clear that undrafted free agent running back Darrel Williams out of Louisiana State has a lot of fans among our writers. He not only bested other hopefuls like Kerwynn Williams but he even made it onto the active roster, forcing the Chiefs to go with five running backs or fullbacks which could seem like overload. Last year the Chiefs had four, but Akeem Hunt was more of a returner. This bunch is all backs without anyone really helping in a returner role. Clearly this would be the case if the Chiefs were very worried about losing Williams on the practice squad.
