Knile Davis lands with Matt Nagy and Chicago Bears
By Matt Conner
Former Kansas City Chiefs running back Knile Davis has found a new home with a familiar coach with the Chicago Bears.
The Chicago Bears have decided to give another chance to a familiar face for Kansas City Chiefs fans, and it likely stems from having a new coach in Matt Nagy who knows what he can do. Adam Schefter reports that the Bears have signed Knile Davis to come in and compete at running back and, more importantly, returner.
The Bears are already well-stocked at the running back position with Jordan Howard and Tarik Cohen leading the way (although Howard has been banged up a bit in camp). Benny Cunningham and Taquan Mizzell are also a part of the current plan, and even rookie FA Ryan Nall impressed with his burst this offseason. Davis could certainly make an impact there with his play, but the team will likely enjoy his special teams presence even more.

Cohen and Cunningham are also in the mix for punt and kick returner along with cornerback Bryce Callahan, who returned only one punt last year and took it all the way.
Maybe there’s room for Davis because of the Cohen-as-Tyreek Hill talk. Once Matt Nagy took over for the Bears, it was popular for NFL analysts to project current Bears players as future Chiefs. Trey Burton became the next Travis Kelce and Tarik Cohen was projected as Tyreek Hill. If that is the goal, Nagy could be following the Chiefs model of removing Cohen from special teams in order to concentrate his game as the team’s true deep threat on offense.
The tough hill to climb for Davis will be that he’s been out of the game for a full year. He signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers last year but failed to catch on and sat out the entire year. Before that his market was also limited after being released by the Chiefs, picked up by the Packers and then Jets before finding his way back to Kansas City.
Davis has 250 career rushes for 805 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also has returned two kicks for touchdowns in his career, including a 108-yard return.
